Tom Evans
Tom Evans is a genuinely versatile endurance athlete: a 13:41 5k, a 63:14 half marathon, and third place at the 2018 World Trail Running Championships over 85km — speed and endurance in one runner.
Coming up through ultras before shorter distances has made him more adaptable, and he enjoys racing everything from 100-mile races to cross country and mountain running.
On the Kew course: "I just really hope that the athletes are put first and then course is representative of athletes would run" on comparable courses — the detail of the course matters for how he trains into it. His focus for the trials is on process, not a specific outcome: consistency and thoroughness in preparation.
On Kenyan and Ethiopian dominance in distance running, Tom's optimistic about Britain's trajectory, crediting the London Marathon and British Athletics for creating opportunities to close the gap — with Callum Hawkins leading the way.
