Steph Davis

Steph Davis, a Clapham Chasers athlete who'd already hit the Olympic qualifying standard, sealed her place on the British Tokyo 2021 team with a commanding win at the Kew Gardens trials.

Becoming an Olympian still feels surreal to her. "I wasn't really thinking about the Olympics or seeing myself as a potential Olympian in the lead up to the race," she says — her focus in the build-up was entirely on training quality and recovery, not the bigger picture.

Her training leans heavily on cross-training — turbo sessions, swimming, weights, stretching and yoga alongside running — an approach that grew out of injury recovery work and has turned out to help her legs recover between sessions without needing double run days.

Despite the scale of what's ahead, Steph's planning minimal lifestyle changes: she'll keep working three days a week at Lazard Asset Management, with a training schedule similar to her trials prep, plus whatever her coaching team adds. She's expecting warm-weather training in Mallorca ahead of Tokyo, and staying open to racing opportunities that fit around it.
