Doha Marathon 2019

The 2019 World Championships Marathon took place in Doha, Qatar, the women's race on 27 September and the men's on 6 October, both held on the seven-kilometre Doha Corniche waterfront boulevard over six laps.

The women's race proved gruelling: starting at midnight, temperatures reached 90°F with 70% humidity. Nearly half of the 68 competitors withdrew, many needing medical attention. Britain's Charlotte Purdue completed three laps before stepping out. Kenya's Ruth Chepngetich won in 2:32, with only 40 of 68 finishing.

The men's race had slightly better conditions — 84°F and 49% humidity. Of 73 starters, 55 finished. Scotland's Callum Hawkins led in the final mile but placed fourth in 2:10:57, six seconds behind the medallists. Ethiopia's Lelisa Desisa took gold, crediting training specifically prepared for the harsh climate.
